Asian countries are demonstrating high growth rates, while positions of traditional leaders — the USA and Europe — are gradually weakening.

According to the Boao Forum for Asia, the region is the main contributor to global growth and will remain its driving force in the coming years. Between 2010 and 2020, Asian countries accounted for 52% of global GDP growth.

Today, nearly 60% of the world's population lives in Asia, and the region accounts for the world's largest consumer market. As a result, Asian economies are increasing their global share: according to experts' estimates, Asia's share of total global GDP (in purchasing power parity) reached about 48% in 2024. By comparison, Europe and North America together account for about one-third of the global economy. In other words, economic leadership is increasingly shifting to the East.

Thus, while speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in 2025, Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, said:

"We have good neighbour relations with many countries – including China, India, Indonesia... There are small, but rapidly developing countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, with which we have had special relations for decades. Why shouldn't we take advantage of all this? This is not a U-turn. It is a response to active processes taking place in the world and in the global economy."

Simply put, the redistribution of global economic influence in favour of the East dictates the need to build new ties and strategies.

RUSSIA AS A TECHNOLOGY HUB AND A LAND OF OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Russia is focusing on partnerships with the Asian region and the development of high-tech centres — technology parks, special economic zones, and scientific and educational clusters.

Not only is the goal to modernise industry, but to also transform the country into an attractive technology hub capable of drawing talents from around the world. However, implementing this strategy requires a sufficient number of qualified personnel.

One approach has been developed by Alabuga, Russia's most effective special economic zone - building its own talent pool through in-house training of qualified employees.
